//Automotive tools for the Mechanical Trade

Any mechanic requires a wide variety of hand and power tools for working on all the different parts of a car engine or body. Mechanic Tools can be bought separately or as a set.

Have a look at the must-have automotive hand tools Kiloton suggests every mechanic should have.

  • Wrench

Kiloton stocks a wide range of quality branded wrenches that vary in price. We advise a quality wrench set that consists of a variety of different sizes.

We suggest the 1B set that comes complete with both metric and imperial sizes. The most requested sizes are 6 – 32mm 1B/26M as well as the ¼ – 1 ¼  ”

  • Ratchet

Ratchet sizes vary from small, to large and are normally used quiet a lot.

  • Sockets

Sockets are identified by the drive unit size, the most popular socket sizes are ¼”, ½”, 3/8” and 1”.

  • Screwdrivers

You will need 2 different types of screwdrivers to make up a set:

  1. Mechanic Flat Screwdrivers
  2. Phillips Screwdrivers

We recommend the 6/9 piece Gedore Screwdriver Set which is made up of most of the popular sizes and consists of both types as mentioned above.

We suggest the MS 6SD/ MS 9SD from the Gedore range.

  • Pliers

Pliers are a must-have for any mechanic. Stier’ s Long Nose Plier is of top-quality and has a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defaults. It is once again proven that quality tools can still be affordable.

  • Vice Grip / Grip Pliers

Both Gedore and Stier offer a range of grip pliers to suit different applications and user needs.  Due to the difference in design, some consumers prefer the Gedore Round Grip Plier as it better suits applications for both flat or rounded materials or a combination of both.

  • Combination Plier a.k.a Regular Plier

A two in one plier, perfect for cutting and gripping.

  • Hammer

A hammer is the ideal tool for striking and each hammer has it’s own purpose. For example, a Ball Pein Hammer is great for general uses where a Rubber Mallet is perfect for striking with a lower impact.

  • Impact Wrench

Time is a factor in any busy work environment and therefore the best impact wrench to use would be the GDS 18 V Professional Cordless Impact Wrench from Bosch. Its perfect handling, high torque and high speed enables fast working progress and the new innovative Coolpack Batteries ensure optimum heat dissipation, therefore increasing product lifetime by up to 100%.  Getting those tough bolts loose will not be a problem anymore.

  • Multimeter

Multimeters range from entry level to highly sophisticated depending on the different functions you require. Be sure to purchase a multimeter that is based on your applicational needs. Some of the basic functions on a multimeter includes the measuring of volts, amperage and resistant CE.

  • Jack

An Automotive Trolley Jack is an essential tool used in the automotive trade and is used for jobs like removing jack wheels or getting work done under the car.

Safety Tip: Always insert your trestles under the car and don’t only rely on your jack alone.

Remember that your safety as a user comes first. Wear protective gear and read the safety instructions.
